Educational Values in a Cross-Cultural Context: The Role of Identities in Students' Perceptions of Foreign Languages
Gross, Dennis
The paper examines the topic of how different identity attributes such as gender, age, culture and education influence the perceptions of students of the language abilities and preferences of foreign language teachers. The research is based on an anthropological perspective in relation to cross-cultural cross-language communication and was conducted in a high school in Western Germany (Ernst von Siemens Gymnasium, Mönchengladbach) with the aim of identifying aspects of teacher–student interaction that might enhance the language learning process for students of a foreign language. The results suggest that teacher–student communication, especially when the teacher and students are similar in age, may stimulate a dynamic development of different kinds of language abilities.[Ornithine decarboxylase and polyamines in human melanoma (author's transl)].
Ornithine decarboxylase activity, putrescine and spermidine concentrations were determined in tissue of various human melanomas. Ornithine decarboxylase activity was not detected in normal skin and in primary tumor of human melanoma and no correlation was found between the level of ornithine decarboxylase activity and polyamine concentration. However, in 8 out of 13 melanoma metastases of various sites ornithine decarboxylase activity was detectable and in some cases the concentration of polyamines was increased as compared to the corresponding primary tumor. The significance of the present results is discussed. The following description of background art may include insights, discoveries, understandings or disclosures, or associations together with disclosures not known to the relevant art prior to the present disclosure but provided by the disclosed embodiments.
